Follow these tips to lower your energy bill at your home or business.

Energy savings

  • We recommend using efficient light bulbs that use less energy. Always remember to switch off lights when you leave a room. Leaving lights and fans on when not needed should be avoided.
  • In the day, the best way to save energy is to use natural light. Open curtains and blinds, and switch off unneeded lights.
  • Try to avoid using energy-intensive appliances and save energy by washing dishes by hand.

Home Efficiency

  • Energy efficiency can be increased through window coverings. Insulated cellular shades can help significantly reduce energy usage in both heating and cooling seasons.
  • Installing efficient bulbs help in conserving energy. CFL and LED bulbs consume less energy than regular bulbs and result in a lower energy bill.
  • Insulating your roof and attic can substantially decrease the need for air conditioning in summers. Use insulation on the roof and attic to save energy.

Air Conditioning

  • Avoid optional use of an air conditioning unit. If the weather is pleasant, open windows and let the breeze in.
  • When using air conditioning, save energy by raising the temperature at night. If possible, consider using the sleep mode as it lowers the output according to a timer.
  • If you do not require the whole house to be cool, consider using a portable unit only where it’s needed.
  • Smart thermostats save energy by learning your behavior and using external information such as humidity to know when to heat or cool your home.

Applicances

  • Leaving appliances plugged in when not in use can use a lot of energy and result in a higher energy bill. Always unplug unused appliances such as coffee machines, phone chargers, etc.,
  • Avoid washing your clothes in hot water if possible. Heating water to wash can consume a lot of energy.
  • Drying clothes can also be done naturally, especially if the weather is warm.
  • Keep your fridge as full as possible as it operates more efficiently when it has more stuff. Also, do not keep the door open for extended periods of time.
